Itinerary

From the very first moment, you know this is not just any tour. It is a sensory immersion into the green heart of the Sierra Nevada, where every step awakens something different. The singing of birds, the aroma of coffee, the freshness of the mountain. Everything is alive.

The adventure begins with a gentle walk along ecological trails. The air is pure, the tall trees protect you from the sun, and a small stream accompanies you with its murmur. You arrive at an artisanal farm where coffee comes to life from seed to cup. Here, you not only taste it: you plant, harvest, and roast it with passion. And when you finally drink it, you understand why it is one of the treasures of these lands.

You continue exploring, crossing the village and leaving dirt roads behind until you reach one of the best-kept secrets: the Oido del Mundo Waterfall. A waterfall in the middle of dense jungle that invites you to swim, breathe deeply, and completely disconnect from the world.

The journey continues to Casa Jocolate, a countryside gem among fruit trees and wild gardens. There, a homemade lunch full of local flavor awaits you, prepared with love and options for all tastes. Then, a hammock, shade of guadua groves, and the sound of the wind… the perfect rest.

And just when you think nothing can top the moment, the cocoa workshop begins. You learn about its ancestral history, taste six different forms of artisanal chocolate, apply a cocoa face mask, and make your own chocolate bar to take home as a souvenir… or as a temptation.

At the end of the day, when you return to Santa Marta with a relaxed body and a light soul, you realize you experienced more than a tour: it was an intimate encounter with the essence of the Sierra.

Itinerary

The journey begins when you leave the hustle of Santa Marta behind and head towards the village of Perico Aguao. As you travel along the coastal road towards Riohacha, the landscape transforms: the hues of the Caribbean give way to the dense vegetation of the Sierra Nevada. In just an hour and a half, you are already surrounded by mountains, pure air, and a silence that announces a connection with something greater.

Upon arrival at the starting point, your steps take you along a natural trail that gently descends among tall trees, singing birds, and the aromas of living jungle. You walk for about 30 minutes through this green corridor until you reach Tayronaka, a sacred place where time seems to have stood still.

Here, history becomes palpable. You walk along the ancient cobblestone paths built by the Tayrona, ancestors of today's Kogui. You can see the circular foundations of ancestral dwellings, and as you go further, you immerse yourself in a deep cultural environment. Accompanied by local guides, you learn how the Kogui relate to the land, water, and the spirits of the mountain. The tour includes a small ethnographic museum with original objects: bags, ritual instruments, tools, and clothing that bring to life a millennial worldview.

After the tour, the environment invites you to sit, breathe, and enjoy. In the midst of nature, you savor a typical lunch, prepared with local ingredients and a lot of love. You have several options to choose from, all full of homemade flavor and tradition. It is a moment to recharge your energy and prepare for what follows.

With the sun high and the river calling you, you get ready for a unique experience: tubing on the Don Diego River. You get on an inflatable tube and let yourself be carried by the gentle current. The river caresses you, the breeze refreshes you, and the jungle becomes a living spectacle around you. Howler monkeys among the branches, multicolored birds crossing the sky, butterflies accompanying you... you are floating in full biodiversity.

For an hour and a half, you flow downstream accompanied by expert guides who ensure your safety and help you interpret the natural richness of the environment. And when you least expect it, the river opens to the sea: you have reached the estuary. It is a magical moment. Before you, the ocean meets the jungle and silence envelops everything. You can sit, walk along the virgin beach, breathe deeply, and keep this image forever.

To close the experience, a boat picks you up on the shore and takes you back upstream. The engine hums softly as you pass through this corridor of life and culture one last time. Upon reaching the starting point, transportation awaits to take you back to Santa Marta.

You have lived a day like no other. You have heard the voice of an ancestral civilization, floated among trees and birds, and met the sea from the river. This is more than an excursion: it is a deep encounter with the Sierra Nevada and its indigenous soul.

Horseback Ride to San Rafael Farm: A journey through flavor, aroma, and the mountain

They say the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta has its own rhythm. It is not measured in hours, but in aromas, landscapes, and silences. It all starts in Minca, that small enchanted corner where the mountain meets the clouds and travelers meet adventure.

Itinerary

It is 8:45 am (or perhaps 2:45 pm) and a special companion awaits you: a gentle, strong horse, ready to guide you along the hidden trails of the jungle. Beside you, a local guide — not only knows the way but also knows the stories that the mountain whispers with the wind.

The ride lasts a couple of hours, but there is no rush. Time dissolves among giant trees, birdsong, and natural viewpoints that steal words. The Sierra embraces you on every curve of the trail, until, among aromas of earth and humidity, San Rafael Farm appears, like a well-kept secret.

There, the welcome is warm and steaming: freshly brewed coffee or hot chocolate made with cocoa from the very land you tread. The farm is not just a place; it is a way of life. Coffee and cocoa are grown as they have been for generations, with respect for the land and those who care for it.

Little by little, you learn the story of cocoa: you see it in its purest form, taste it with honey, smell it freshly roasted. And the coffee, that dark elixir that tastes different here, tastes of mountain, of work, of authenticity.

This journey is not just a ride. It is a connection. With the landscape, with the people, with flavors you won’t find in supermarkets or city cafés. It is an experience for the senses, and for the soul.

When it is time to return, you do so changed. Perhaps lighter, perhaps fuller. But certainly more connected to this magical land.

Itinerary

Day 1 | From Santa Marta to the Heart of Cerro Kennedy
We pick you up early at your hotel in Santa Marta. The urban bustle fades away as the vehicle enters the road leading to Minca, a charming mountain village located at 650 meters above sea level. The temperature drops slightly, the air becomes fresher and cleaner, and the vegetation begins to close in a symphony of intense greens.
You make a special stop at a traditional coffee farm. Here, with your senses awakened, you discover the process that transforms the red bean into the drink that wakes the world: from planting, harvesting, pulping, to artisanal sun drying. You drink your first coffee of the trip, and it will never taste the same again: it is deeper, more complex, more alive.
With the aroma of coffee still on your palate, you begin a 3-kilometer hike that takes approximately two hours. The path opens among tall trees, crunchy leaves, and songs of hidden birds. The walk is slow, enough to observe, breathe, and adapt to the rhythm of the mountain. Finally, Santa Elena Farm appears through the mist: a simple, welcoming building surrounded by crops, flowers, and wild sounds.
You are welcomed with a peasant snack, followed by a typical Colombian lunch. Simple but authentic flavors, served with the warmth of those who live in harmony with the mountain. In the afternoon, you explore the surroundings of the farm: ancient trees, small gardens, aromas of damp earth. And as evening falls, the great spectacle: the sky is tinged with orange and violet tones as the sun bids farewell behind the Ciénaga Grande and the Caribbean Sea, visible from the heights. Homemade dinner, conversation by the campfire, and a night of deep rest in absolute silence.

Day 2 | The Challenge of Cerro Kennedy: trails, mist, and giants of snow
You wake up closer to the clouds. Outside, the air is cold and the sky begins to be painted in deep blue. You take a steaming cup of Colombian coffee and, with it in your hands, you contemplate the awakening of the Sierra. It is an intimate, almost sacred moment.
After a traditional breakfast, you prepare for the ascent to Cerro Kennedy. The hike begins early. It is 5 kilometers uphill each way, taking about 3 hours depending on your pace. The difficulty is high: the trail is demanding, with sections of mud, roots, water crossings, and sustained slopes. But with every step, the mountain rewards you with something new: a hummingbird suspended in the air, a wild orchid, a breathtaking view.
The route advances along private trails, away from the crowds, allowing you a more intimate connection with the environment. You cross streams, go through cloud forests laden with humidity and life. If you are lucky and attentive, you may observe endemic birds unique to this magical region.
Finally, you reach the Cerro Kennedy viewpoint, at more than 3,000 meters above sea level. And there, at the top, the reward: the majestic view of the snowy peaks Bolívar and Colón, the highest in Colombia, covered in mist and silence. The moment is pure wonder.
After a pause to absorb it all, you begin the return along the same trail. It takes about 2 hours to reach the farm again. A replenishing lunch awaits you, rest in a hammock, and perhaps a gentle walk to enjoy another sunset. The swing at the edge of the mountain invites you to float a little closer to the sky.

Day 3 | Hike to the sacred waterfall of Panku
The last day begins with a new sunrise, coffee in hand, and the gentle murmur of the mountain still asleep. You have breakfast with a view of the valley and prepare for a hike that is as magical as it is challenging.
Today's route takes you 4.5 kilometers to Panku waterfall, a waterfall considered sacred by ancestral communities. The trail changes constantly: rock, earth, dense jungle. It is a demanding path, recommended for travelers in good physical condition, but the reward is unique. Upon arrival, you immerse yourself in cold, pure waters, as if the Sierra itself offered you a blessing before leaving.
After the revitalizing bath, you return to the farm for lunch and begin the final descent to the road. The exit journey takes about 45 minutes on foot. From there, the vehicle returns you to Santa Marta. The body is tired, but the soul is light.
You leave with the certainty of having lived something unique: a deep connection with the mountain, its silences, its colors, its people. Cerro Kennedy is no longer just a place; it is part of your story.
